QINGHAI

The Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers rise in Qinghai Province in northeast Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The province is home to a number of ethnic peoples, including the Hans, Tibetans, Huis and Tus, Salas and Mongols, but the Qiangs were the earliest settlers. Qinghai is a major pastoral region, and there is so much to see in the province, such as snow-clad mountains and glaciers, lakes and rivers, dense forests, folkways, scenic spots and places of historical interest. The Tar (Kumbum) Monastery is a religious sanctuary. Popular tourist destinations include the headwaters of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the Qinghai Lake and the bird Isle.
